6th Grade Teacher
I graduated from Dierks High School in 1996 and from Henderson State University in 2000. I am 4 classes from my MSE in Curriculum and Instruction.
My college degree is a Bachelor of Science in Education. I am certified in grades 1-6, ESL, and Middle School Science, Social Studies, Math, and English.
I have been teaching school for 17 years. I am beginning my 18th year in Education. I began my career at Kirby High School, teaching there for 1 year. I then moved on to Mineral Springs Elementary School, where I stayed for 3 years, and I have been at Nashville Elementary for the last 13 years. I am currently teaching Math.
I began my career in 2000 at Kirby High School where I taught 7th grade Geography and 8th grade Math. I then moved on to Mineral Springs and stayed there for three years. While there, I taught Kindergarten, 4th grade, and 3rd grade. I was also K-12 GT coordinator.
I knew very early on that teaching school is my calling. I want my students to have a positive experience in my classroom each and every day. Success can and will be achieved if we all work together for the good of these kids.
I married my husband, Matt, in 2000. We have one son, Aiden, who is 12 and in 7th grade at Nashville Junior High. We have a dog, a Bichon Frise named Ruby. We own Smith's Cleaners, located at 609 South Main, and my husband works many hours there each day.
My parents are retired teachers. Mom taught Spanish for 32 years and retired from DeQueen 3 years ago. Dad taught Science, Health, and Driver's Ed and coached football, track, and basketball for 33 years before retiring from Murfreesboro. He was inducted into the AAA HIgh School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2013.
I have two sisters: Tammi Harris and Rebecca Hill. Tammi lives in Nashville and Rebecca lives in Dierks.
My nephews are Alex Leach, Evan Leach, Andrew Hill, and Carson Thrash, and my niece is Addison Hill.
I love my family very much.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy shopping, reading good books, swimming with my son and dog, traveling, and spending time with family.
